Why Hire A Registered Interior Designer?
To answer that, we need to answer another question: what exactly is an RID?
While there’s nothing to prevent anyone in the design field from calling themselves an interior designer, a registered interior designer is someone who has completed certain education requirements - at least a four-year degree with continuing education - and passed the NCIDQ exam so that they may register with the state and obtain an official stamp to seal blueprints, allowing them to be submitted for permitting in the same manner as an architect.
The main difference between an RID’s services and those of an architect is that an RID deals exclusively with interior features of a building. An RID is qualified to place non-load bearing walls as well as plumbing, electrical and data fixtures and may specify any feature of a structure’s interior such as lighting and finishes. An RID can complete the interior by procuring furniture and curating art and decor. An RID can also fulfill the role of interior construction administrator and be your advocate throughout the build-out of your space.
So, why hire a registered interior designer? You’re hiring a specialist whose primary focus is the interior, someone with in-depth knowledge and experience specific to your interior needs. In fact, hiring an RID to handle all facets of an interior build-out could be the best investment you as a developer, building owner or tenant could make in your property.
